About us

Model building has played a large role in the life of the Plettenberg family for over 50 years. We have built model boats, cars and planes as a hobby and as a high performance sport with world championship titles. In about 1980 father and son started to build electric motors for themselves. With these motors came success with the world championship title of Uwe Plettenberg in the racing class F1E for boats up to 1Kg. History played it’s part and Plettenberg electric motors became world famous for their excellence and reliability.

Today we not only manufacture high performance electric motors for all model applications but also specialise in custom made motors for hobby, industry and electrically driven cars of all kinds. For an example of industrial application, the solar powered plane SOLAIR II is equipped with our motors.Plettenberg Motors are ideal when high efficiency is demanded but only a limited quantity of energy is available. We have made it our target to develop and produce high-end motors of low weight combined with the highest possible performance and efficiency. This target is not only for specialist products but also for the everyday modeller. We are proud to achieve average tolerance values of +/- 1.5% in series production. The highest quality raw materials and greatest care in manufacture are at the basis of our concepts. Part of our success is consulting with our customers to form an honest opinion backed up by proven facts and figures. We do not try to over advertise the performance of our motors, but prefer to present it realistically. In 1997 a new plant was built to give our customers the best possible service and reliability. The production was optimised so we can react much better to customer demands and process work and orders even faster. Only good and comfortable conditions can produce the best work. This newly available space allowed us to install a CNC automated lathe on which we can now machine all our metal parts. This allows us to be very flexible to the market and produce small production runs or even single pieces.
